Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Infection in Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Cystic Fibrosis is an autosomal recessive genetic disease where the lung is heavily colonized by biofilm forming Pseudomonas aeruginosabacteria. Biofilm due to its thick wall and presence of extracellular polymeric substances confers bacteria with a much higher resistance against antimicrobial compounds and environmental stress. Research has revealed the presence of extracellular DNA (eDNA) in ...

Acquisition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in children with cystic fibrosis.

OBJECTIVE This study was pursued as an extension of a randomized clinical investigation of neonatal screening for cystic fibrosis (CF). The project included assessment of respiratory secretion cultures for pathogens associated with CF. The objective was to determine whether patients diagnosed through neonatal screening and treated in early infancy were more likely to become colonized with Pseud...

Antibiotic Susceptibility of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Abstract Background and Objective: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disease and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common bacteria colonized in CF patients. Growing resistance of this bacterium to antibiotics now a day is a challenge of controlling infection in CF patient. In this study colonization of CF patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antibiotic suscep...

Onset of persistent pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in children with cystic fibrosis with interval censored data

BACKGROUND Persistent Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PPA) infection promotes lung function deterioration in children with cystic fibrosis (CF). Although early CF diagnosis through newborn screening (NBS) has been shown to provide nutritional/growth benefit, it is unclear whether NBS lowers the risk of PPA infection and how the effect of NBS vary with age. Modeling the onset age of PPA infection is cha...
